If you do have an accepted offer signed by buyers and seller, that was dated before April 30, 2010... you have until June 30, 2010 to close the sale. If you did not have a home under contract to purchase by April 30, 2010, with buyers and sellers signatures, the opportunity to capitalize on the Tax Credit Program is gone.

There is no further discussion in Congress to extend the program or replace with a similar program.

Homebuyer Tax Credit – The bill provides for a $8,000 tax credit that would be available to first-time home buyers for the purchase of a principal residence on or after November 7, 2009 and before April 30, 2010. The credit does not require repayment. Most of the mechanics of the credit will be the same as under the 2008 rules: the credit will be claimed on a tax return to reduce the purchaser’s income tax liability. If any credit amount remains unused, then the unused amount will be refunded as a check to the purchaser.
